Installation

The Big Brother plugin is designed to make it easy to see important parameters of several hosted pages in client/server mode, on a website, in its administration interface, in a widget. The client plugin (big-brother) can work on its own and can still be a useful helper.

The installation is different for the two plugins. As a first step, it is recommended that you install the Big Brother plugin (Big-brother.zip in the package) on each page you want to monitor, and then on the WordPress system that you want to use as a server in this regard and that you regularly visit the Big Brother Master plugin (Big-brother-master.zip included in the package). The last step in the installation is to establish a connection between the plugins.

  2. Log in to the WordPress administration interface
  3. Select „Extensions / Add New” from the menu on the left
  4. Click the „Upload Extension” button in the upper left corner of the page that appears
  5. Locate the big-brother.zip file in the previously extracted folder, then click „Install Now”
  6. The extension will be installed and you can enable it. Turn it on!

Make a connection

To establish a connection between plugins, all parameters must be set on both the server and client side and they must be in sync for proper operation!
Setting on client side
  1. Log in to the WordPress administration interface
  2. Select „Extensions / Installed Extensions” from the menu on the left
  3. Find the „Big Brother” plugin and click the „Settings” link under the name
  4. On the page that appears, in the „Remote Server” line, enter the title of the home page of the page on which the server-side plugin is running and through which you want to manage this page. (Ex: https://my-wordpress-page.com)
  5. Click the Generate Key button. (You can override the generated key, but it can only contain English ABC letters and numbers and hyphens converted to uppercase.)
  6. Click Save Changes button!
The client-side plugin is now ready to connect.

Setting server side
In order to capture a page to be monitored, the Big Brother plugin must already be installed, configured, and enabled on the client side. You will also need the URL link on the page and the key created there to set it up.
  1. Log in to the WordPress administration interface
  2. Select „Extensions / Installed Extensions” from the menu on the left
  3. Find the „Very Big Brother” plugin and click the „Settings” link under the name
  4. The page that appears lists the previously linked pages. To disconnect one, click the button in the queue!
  5. Click Add New Page button to create a new connection!
  6. In the window that appears, enter the URL link of the title page of the page you want to connect in the „Title Page Link” line. (Ex: https://my-wordpress-page.com)
  7. Enter the key for the page in the „Key” line. (This key was generated during client setup.)
  8. Press Add button to save the setting!
  9. The plugin will attempt to contact you based on the parameters you specify. If the contact is successful, it will query the page title and (also) enter it in a new row in the table.
  10. Settings aren’t saved yet! Press Save Changes in the bottom left corner to save your settings!

Once installed and connected, the plugins are ready to use – no further action required.

Remove plugin

It can be deleted – as usual in WordPress – after deactivation. The plugin will then delete all your personal data – including your settings and database.
